Overview of Medical Evaluation

Fitness for duty medical evaluation may include the following: 

  • History, including:
    • Risk factor evaluation and calculation of cardiovascular risk (see Appendix A of CAD chapter)
    • Treatment, effects on performance (e.g., beta blockers), heat tolerance (e.g., diuretics) , and other side effects (see Medications chapter) 
  • Physical exam (see Appendix A for blood pressure measurement)
  • ECG
  • Imaging exercise stress test (EST)
  • Echocardiogram
  • Evaluation of end-organ damage (see Appendix B)
