Appendix A: Calculation of cardiovascular risk in PSWs with no known CAD
PSWs ≥40 years of age should be assessed annually for their cardiovascular risk.
PSWs between the ages of 35 and 40 should be assessed at age 35 (and re-assessed at the discretion of the agency medical provider up to the age of 40) for their cardiovascular risk for their 2-year risk of ASCVD (to the Task Group’s awareness, no 10-year risk calculators are designed for individuals under the age of 40).
PSWs under the age of 35, at the discretion of the agency medical provider based on the PSW’s personal risk factors, may be further evaluated using symptom-limited imaging exercise stress test.
Multiple cardiac risk calculators exist, but, at the time of this writing, no single one has been universally agreed upon as the best.
Commonly used calculators include:
- 2-year tool16
- American College of Cardiology 10-year ASCVD (atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease) risk estimator: https://tools.acc.org/ascvd-risk-estimator-plus/
- American Heart Association 10-year PREVENT (predicting risk of cardiovascular disease event) calculator: https://professional.heart.org/en/guidelines-and-statements/prevent-calculator
