Physical Examination

The physical examination is performed by the police physician (MD or DO) or when allowed by law, a non-physician licensed health care provider, under the direct supervision of the police physician. Personal, treating physicians should not perform the post-offer examination of police applicants.e,7-11 (See also Appendix C: Physical Examination Form.)

The sample physical examination form contains the following sections:

  • Biometric data
  • Vital signs
  • Vision examination (visual acuity, peripheral vision and color vision)
  • Examination by organ system

 

 

 


e Conditions of concern include hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, dilated cardiomyopathy, long QT syndrome, Brugada syndrome, arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome and early coronary artery disease (see also the Cardiovascular Disease chapter).
